Towards a More Participatory and Equitable Management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)

Towards a More Participatory and Equitable Management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs); understanding the challenges of good governance” is a course organized by the Austral Patagonia Program of Universidad Austral de Chile together with the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea and Areas of Influence, and its goal is to address the challenge of managing a Marine Protected Area (MPA) acknowledging the rights, qualifications, and expectations of local social groups with multiple interests, within the framework of diverse institutional jurisdictions. 

This course is part of the School of Management of Marine Protected Areas of the Southern Cone (EAMP), a joint regional initiative promoted by the following organizations under the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea and Areas of Influence Conservation Forum: WWF, WCS, FVS, and PEW, with the support of the Blue Nature Alliance (BNA). 

Its implementation is made possible thanks to a partnership between the EAMP and the Protected Areas and Community Academy of the Austral Patagonia Program (Universidad Austral de Chile) and UACh’s Continuing Education Center.
